ED Coating for Industrial Steel and Aluminium Components

At EBP, we operate one of Northern Europe’s most advanced cathodic electrocoating facilities for steel and aluminium body components. Our surface treatment processes meet the most demanding OEM requirements for corrosion protection and surface quality – whether for small parts, large body sides or complete cabs. We are equipped to coat a wide range of products and components.

With automated process control and continuous quality monitoring, we ensure a consistent coating thickness, excellent adhesion and long-lasting corrosion protection.

OEM Quality for Demanding Environments

EBP offers fully automated electrophoretic ED coating (Electro-Cathodic-Dip) for steel and aluminium – developed to meet the automotive industry’s highest standards and available to a wide range of industries.

We coat large and complex components with consistent film thickness, complete coverage and fully documented process control.

It is the same proven technology used for automotive body components, applied to industrial structures where corrosion protection, durability and precision are critical.

When Is ED Coating the Right Choice?

ED coating is particularly well suited for:

  • Structures exposed to outdoor environments

  • Components with hard-to-reach cavities and recesses

  • Aluminium and steel parts with demanding corrosion protection requirements

  • Complex geometries

  • Low- to medium-volume production

  • Projects requiring OEM-level standards

Typical applications include:

  • Wind power components
  • Solar energy and mounting systems
  • Industrial machinery and equipment
  • Vehicles and transportation
  • Defence industry applications
  • Metal components for furniture and architectural applications

Capacity and Process

EBP’s surface treatment facility is fully computer-controlled and features 19 immersion stages for degreasing, phosphating, ED coating, curing and post-sealing.

  • Capacity: 1,800,000 m²/year
  • Load carriers: 12 per hour
  • Component size: up to 4,000 × 1,000 × 1,700 mm
  • Maximum weight per load carrier: 350 kg
  • Materials: steel, galvanised steel and aluminium
  • Coating thickness: 15–50 µm (typically 20 ± 2 µm)
  • Curing oven: converted from LPG to electric operation in 2025

The process delivers a uniform, durable surface that can be painted directly without additional pre-treatment – ideal for manufacturers requiring OEM-level finish and corrosion protection.

Our facility is designed to process both steel and aluminium in parallel without compromising quality.

The closed-loop water system and advanced filtration ensure:

  • Stable bath quality
  • No cross-contamination
  • Consistent and repeatable surface finish
  • High level of process control

The result is consistent and reliable corrosion protection – even on complex geometries and hard-to-reach surfaces.

Environment and Sustainability

Sustainability is an integral part of our surface treatment process. Through smart technology, energy efficiency and closed-loop systems, we minimise our environmental impact while meeting both current and future requirements.

  • Closed-loop water system: All process water is treated and reused to minimise resource consumption.
  • Energy transition: The curing oven is being converted from LPG to electric operation to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • Environmental certification: We are certified according to ISO 14001 and continuously work to improve energy efficiency.
